My father is my Great Aunt Kathryn’s primary caretaker, a full-time, often thankless job, as she lives with a dementia most likely caused by Alzheimer’s Disease. He has chosen to be the primary caretaker for two of his aunts, rather than continue to pursue his own professional career. I have the highest respect for my father, and it is with this in mind that I’ve joined him to fight Alzheimer’s through the Memory Walk, which he is helping organize in Raleigh/Durham.

Why You Should Support The Memory Walk Also

With more than 5 million Americans diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, chances are pretty good that someone you know has been affected directly or indirectly by the disease.

As horrible as this disease is, there’s great hope for a vaccine to prevent it, diagnostic methods to identify it early, and/or drugs to effectively treat it.
 
Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. New diagnostic tools including brain imaging technology  and the sequencing of the human genome  have allowed scientists (for the first time) to gain insights and understanding of the disease.

What I Am Doing

Hearing about and witnessing the insidious effects of Alzheimer’s on my Great-Aunt Kathryn make me determined to make a difference.
 
When I discovered that the Alzheimer’s Association was conducting a “Memory Walk” to raise awareness and raise funds, I immediately signed up to participate. And yes, this is an invitation and request for you to join me in this Fundraising Effort.
